For those of you who would like a brighter smile, teeth whitening is a great option. You do have choices when considering whitening your teeth, and it is important to talk with your dentist before deciding. Various factors, such as cost or how quickly you would like to see results will help you choose the best procedure for you. But, you may be wondering is it safe?

Research has determined that teeth whitening is both safe and effective. Although, there can be some mild side effects to the procedure. Some of the most common side effects are tooth sensitivity and occasional irritation of the oral soft tissues such as the gums. Tooth sensitivity often occurs during early stages of bleaching treatment. Tissue irritation, in most cases, results from an ill-fitting tray rather than the tooth-bleaching agents. Both tooth sensitivity and tissue irritation are temporary, and usually subside after treatment is finished. If you do experience any side effects from a teeth whitening procedure, talk to your dentist.

Make sure to use clinically proven products, follow the directions and always talk to your dentist before deciding on any teeth whitening procedure. Contact Crown Dentistry to schedule an appointment today!

CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction. It is a ceramic dental restoration product that allows your dentist to restore your tooth in one appointment. Cerec uses the most advanced dental technology, including 3D imaging and CAD/CAM technology to create the crown. In layman’s terms, it is a computer-designed restoration for your tooth. The whole procedure takes between 1-3 hours and can be completed in one sitting.

Typically, a crown requires 2 appointments with your dentist. The first appointment includes preparing the tooth, taking the mold, and fitting a temporary crown. During second appointment, the temporary crown is replaced with the permanent one.

With a Cerec crown, the whole procedure can be completed in just one appointment. Your dentist will use 3D imaging technology to photograph the tooth. He will also use CAD/CAM technology to design the crown. Then this 3D design is wirelessly transmitted to a milling machine that will carve the restoration out of ceramic block. Your dentist will then adhere the new crown to your tooth.

Cerec crowns are strong, durable, and can even be color matched to surrounding teeth, so they are less noticeable. If you have any questions regarding Cerec crowns, contact Crown Dentistry today.

If you are unhappy with the color of your teeth or would just like a brighter smile, then you may want to consider teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is any process that makes the teeth appear whiter. This could include simply removing surface stains through a non-bleaching process, or actual bleaching of the teeth, which will change the tooth’s natural color. There are a few different teeth whitening options to consider, and you should always discuss your options with your dentist first.

The first is a whitening toothpaste. Whitening toothpastes are a popular option, as they are readily available, and sold over the counter. All toothpastes help to remove stains from the teeth, but a whitening toothpaste has special chemical or polishing agent that provides additional stain removal. Whitening toothpastes do not change the natural color of the teeth, but they do help to remove surface stains and brighten the teeth.

For a stronger, more effective whitening procedure, you may want to try either in-home or in-office bleaching. In-home bleaching is administered by your dentist, but will be applied at home. The in-home bleaching products contain peroxide to bleach the tooth enamel. Typically, this will come in the form of a gel that is used with a custom fit tray. The gel will have to be applied daily for 1-2 weeks. This process is stronger than a whitening toothpaste and will change the color of your teeth by actually pulling the stain out of your teeth.

In-office bleaching is the quickest and most effective teeth whitening process. The procedure is performed by your dentist and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Your dentist will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect the oral soft tissues. Then a special bleaching agent is applied to the teeth. Sometimes a light or laser is also used to enhance the action of the whitening agent. More than one application may be necessary. In-office whitening allows your dentist to use a more powerful whitening gel. This allows the bleaching to happen quicker and for you to see results sooner. Both whitening options work well. The in-office tends to work well for people who want to whiten quickly.

It is always best to speak with your dentist before deciding on any teeth whitening procedure. He will be able to help you determine the most effective solution. Contact Crown Dentistry today to schedule your appointment to discuss teeth whitening.
